Helpful Documents to Bring
- If you don’t have these, don’t worry the officer can often help track down what’s needed — but it can save time if folks bring what they already have.
- DD214 or discharge papers
- Any previous VA decisions or paperwork
- Medical records – especially those that relate to the disability or condition you’re claiming
- Dependent information – for spouses/children: Social Security numbers, marriage certificates, or birth certificates, if applicable.
- Proof of income – often for pension-related benefits (e.g., bank statements, SSA letters).
- Any civilian federal job records – especially for folks who had military and civilian service, to understand cross-crediting.
- Notes or records of what you’re trying to claim – even just a handwritten list helps focus the visit.
